Day 28 - That's a lot of corn...Really!

The last two days of riding were about working hard and getting the job done. The weather and terrain were unremarkable, but we did ride 195 miles on flat country roads and boy, is there a lot of corn out there! Maybe it just looks like so much because I was on the bike. Either way, there's not much else to say.

For those of you that have cycled with me over the years, you know that I prefer the hills. I have taken the opportunity of the last couple of days to work on my flat road skills...(i.e. pedal real hard for a real long time until I get real tired)

Tomorrow we rest and then ride into Indiana on Thursday.

  1. Have there been any "feet issues" in the group?
I'm thinking about riding in bike sandals in XC11.

At this point, what would be your suggestion to someone riding next year?

  2. That's better. I watched the weather radar today and the storm that followed you into Champaign. Tomorrow is a well deserved rest day. Don't forget to decorate your helmet! Part of the fun.

  3. On the hills you MUST work, on the flats...its all self motivation. Can't wait to draft behind you once you return! Enjoy the rest day and say hello to my old buddies at Lilly when you ride through Indy.

  4. To Jeff - One of our XC09 did perhaps half the ride in bike sandals...he swore by them and had no problems so far as I know.

  6. To Jeff XC11,
No foot problems I'm aware of... My only advice to anyone planning a x-country ride is 1) know your equipment (shoes or otherwise) 2) be ready to ride back to back centuries on consecutive days 3) A&D ointment has saved many of backsides.
